Have your say

Put an issue on the agenda.

If something in this city was promised and has not happened, or a service that used to work no longer does, tell us. We check it against the public record, list it, and raise it with the people responsible.

What counts

You do not need to be angry. You need to be specific.

The standing agenda is for things that can be checked: a promise with a date on it, a budget line, a plan that was adopted, a service that was running and is not.

Good agenda items

  • A project announced with a timeline that has slipped without explanation.
  • A footpath, crossing, park or facility closed for months with no end date.
  • A service that was cut or quietly reduced.
  • A decision made without the people it affects being asked.
  • Money spent and nothing visible to show for it.

Things we cannot take on

  • Emergencies. If someone is in danger, call 000.
  • Disputes between neighbours, or with a landlord or employer.
  • Complaints about a named individual rather than a decision.
  • Legal advice. We can point you to who might help, and that is all.

How an item moves

From your message to the decision maker's desk

  1. 1
    Received

Your submission lands on our board. Every item is read by a person. If you left an email and we need more detail, we ask.

  2. 2
    Checked against the public record

We look for the promise and the gap: council minutes and agendas, adopted budgets and plans, media releases, planning registers, state announcements, Hansard. If we cannot find it, the item waits until we can, and we tell you so if we can reach you.

  3. 3
    Listed

Checked items go on the standing agenda with what was promised, what has happened, and the source. Your name is never attached unless you ask for it to be.

  4. 4
    Raised

We put the item to the people responsible: as a question from the floor at a forum, or in writing. We record what they say.

  5. 5
    Answered, or still open

Items stay on the agenda until there is a real answer or the thing gets done. Open items get raised again.

What the form asks

Five minutes, and photos help

A short title. What was promised or expected, what has actually happened, and when you noticed. The area it falls under and the suburb or precinct. Who is responsible, if you know. Photos or documents, if you have them. Your name and email are both optional.

If you upload photos, check they do not show other people's faces or number plates. We want the footpath, not the passers-by.

Anonymity

You can stay anonymous. Here is the trade-off.

Leave the name and email fields blank and nothing about you is recorded. The item then has to stand on the public record alone, because we cannot come back to you for the detail that would make it stronger. If you give us an email, we use it for that follow-up and for nothing else. We never publish a name without asking first.

What we do with your details is set out on the privacy page.
