Agenda.Melbourne

Get involved

Pass on what you know, or back the people learning it.

Agenda.Melbourne runs on people who give their time. Mentors, volunteers and partner organisations all come in through the same door: register, and tell us which of these you are.

Mentors

You have done it. Show someone the way in.

We are looking for people who have held an elected role, led a community organisation, run a business, worked inside government or run a campaign. Your politics are your own. What a young person needs from you is honesty about what the work involves, answers to the questions they cannot ask in public, and now and then an introduction.

Commitment
Light to begin with: a few conversations over a few months. You and your mentee set the pace.
Ground rules
Help them form their own views. No recruiting for a party, a campaign or a cause. Anyone mentoring a person under 18 will need a current Victorian Working with Children Check.
How to offer
Register, tick "Mentor young people", and tell us a little about what you have done.
Volunteers

Help run the room.

Forums need people on the door and on the microphone. Grounded State shoots need hands on the day. The standing agenda needs people who can read a council minute and find the line that matters. If you can write, film, edit, organise or research, there is a job.

Commitment
By the event or by the task. Say what you have time for and we will work around it.
Good for
Students who want experience in civic work, media or events, and anyone who would rather do than watch.
How to offer
Register, and tick "Volunteer" or "Create content or share stories".
Partners

Bring a cohort, host a session, back a forum.

Schools, universities, student associations, community organisations, councils and businesses can all partner. The simplest partnership is a room and a group of people in it. Beyond that: host a workshop, bring your students or members to a forum, or sponsor the costs of running one.

What partners get
A say in which issues the forums take up, visibility with an engaged audience, and a direct line to young people who want to lead.
What we hold to
Partnership never buys a position. Forums stay open, motions stay balanced, and we say who supported what.
How to start
Register on behalf of your organisation and tick "Partner or sponsor as an organisation". We will come back to you to talk it through.

Decision makers

If you make decisions about Melbourne

Councillors, members of parliament, senior officials and others with authority over an issue are welcome to take questions at a forum or sit for a Grounded State interview. Invitations go by role, never by party. Register and tell us who you are, and we will be in touch about what is being planned.
